“The courage to take a risk for God’s promise” - Pope Francis, 2019
In the Bible, God says: “I know the plans I have in mind for you - it is the Lord who speaks - plans for peace, not disaster, reserving a future full of hope for you.”(Jr 29:11)
At Christ the King we are passionate about helping the children to understand the meaning of vocation and begin to assist the children in discerning theirs. Our vocation is “the call to holiness” - not just our occupation. Every vocation is a summons to follow Jesus on the path he has marked out for us, for our own happiness and for the good of those around us - it is about being the person that God created us to be. We strive to support children in identifying and developing their God given gifts and talents by providing them with a wealth of opportunities and experiences.
Some of our school saints and holy people have made powerful comments about their vocation:
Blessed John Henry Newman (Class 9):
“I am created to do something or to be something for which no one else has been created. I have a place in God’s world which no one else has. Whether I be rich or poor, despised or esteemed by man, God knows me and calls me by my name.”
St. Teresa of Calcutta (Class 4):
“By blood I am Albanian. By citizenship, Indian. By faith, I am a Catholic nun. As to my calling, I belong to the world. As to my heart, I belong entirely to the heart of Jesus. “
St. Thérèse of Liseux (Group Support Room 1):
“Oh,...I have the vocation of the apostles...I would want to preach the gospel on all five continents at the same time...I would be a missionary, not for a few years only, but from the beginning of time until the consummation of the ages.”
We want our children to be aware of the huge number of ways in which they can called to serve others . In addition to living out the Gospel Virtues, this will be reflected in the occupation that children choose once they leave education.
Each year we hold a ‘WOW (World of Work) week’ and all children go on visits to places of work as well as welcoming in visitors from many different fields. Please browse the photographs on our 'Year Group' pages in the Summer Term to see some of the fantastic people the children have the opportunity to meet.
