    Severe Weather Procedures

    Dear parents and guardians

Our main priority will always be the safety and wellbeing of our pupils, families and staff when making a decision whether or not to close when there is extreme weather. Whilst we will do everything we can to stay open, we will take in to account the following:

    Is the site safe?

Are the local roads too dangerous to drive on?

Has the local authority enforced a blanket closure?

When will the decision be made?

I aim to make a decision by 7am once I have gathered information about the local conditions.

How will you know if the school is open or closed?

Should a closure be necessary, families will be notified by text and information will be published on the school website with a clear banner confirming the school’s status. Please do not telephone the school.

  • Bonfire Night

    Wed 05 Nov 2025

    Dear Parent/Guardian                                                                                         5th November 2025

Ahead of Bonfire Night tonight, and planned celebrations at the weekend, we're writing to remind parents and guardians of the importance of keeping children safe around fireworks and in public areas.

While organised and safe bonfire events can be fun for the whole family, we have sadly seen unacceptable scenes with fireworks in Birmingham city centre recently.

Pockets of disorder involving young people saw several fireworks released in a dangerous manner, as members of the public and our officers faced attack.

These incidents are currently subject to ongoing police investigations, and a number of individuals were arrested.

Our message to you is firstly - we are not tolerating this appalling action

We are doing everything in our power to keep the city safe, including for young people attending school and college here. We have been very clear that anyone who is involved in this kind of behaviour faces serious consequences, and risks being arrested.

In addition to our existing powers, a Section 60 order will be in place in Birmingham in response to this disorder. The powers from this allow us to stop and search people without the need to have reasonable grounds. This power is exercised to safeguard the community from this dangerous behaviour.

As always, our focus is on keeping everyone safe, which is why we are asking parents and guardians to:

    • Speak to your children about the dangers of handling and misusing fireworks
    • Know where your children are, and who they are with, especially during the darker evenings
    • Encourage them to attend organised firework displays rather than unsupervised gatherings
    • Report any concerns about antisocial behaviour and firework safety directly to us

Reporting information to us is vital, and as well as parents and guardians, we're asking schools and colleges, and the wider community to share their concerns with us — as your support helps us keep communities safe.

We will continue working with our partners across the city and the wider West Midlands as we work through this intelligence and act accordingly.

You can read more safety advice on our website, where you can also find details of how to share information with us — including how to do so anonymously.

  • Suspected Measles – Parents

    Fri 27 Jun 2025

    What is measles?

Measles cases have started to spread across the West Midlands. Measles is highly infectious and can lead to serious health complications, especially in children under 1, pregnant women, and people with a weakened immune system. Outbreaks can happen when not enough people have been immunised.

How to protect yourself and your family from measles What should you do if you or your child has suspected measles? If your child develops symptoms, urgently contact your GP. Please contact the surgery by telephone before visiting and tell the reception staff that you think that your child may have measles. Do not attend the surgery unless you are asked to. The doctor will make special arrangements to see your child so that if they have measles, they won’t pass it on to others.

What are the symptoms of measles? Measles usually starts with cold-like symptoms. The first symptoms of measles include: a high temperature a runny or blocked nose sneezing a cough red, sore, watery eyes A rash usually appears a few days after the cold-like symptoms. The rash starts on the face and behind the ears before spreading to the rest of the body. Some people may also get small spots in their mouth, particularly inside the cheeks and on the back of the lips.

To learn more about symptoms, visit https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/measles/. The MMR immunisation is safe for all faiths and cultures. A pork-free version is available for those who avoid pork products. This immunisation is available at every GP practice, and it is free.

How can you protect yourself and your family from measles? The MMR immunisation is the best way to protect yourself and your family against measles because it is: effective safe free of charge 2 doses of the MMR immunisation are needed to give the best protection against measles. The first dose of the MMR immunisation is normally given soon after the first birthday, and a second dose before starting school, but you can catch-up with missed MMR doses at any age. Research has shown there is no link between the MMR immunisation and autism. For more information on the MMR immunisation visit https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/mmr
