CTK Stewards
CTK Stewards
These twelve men were sent out by Jesus with the following instructions: …“Go and preach, ‘The Kingdom of heaven is near!’ Mt 10: 5.7
In his 2015 encyclical, Laudato Si, Pope Francis calls all Roman Catholics to be stewards of creation. With this in mind, we evaluated the role of our 'Faith Ambassadors' and, with suggestions from the pupils, re-defined their purpose. It was decided that moving forward, this pupil group would be named 'CTK Stewards' and that these children would take a leading role in responding to the demands of Catholic Social Teaching; being pro-active in finding ways of responding locally, nationally and globally.
Each year ALL children are provided with the opportunity to apply to be a CTK Steward. Having written a speech saying why they would be an excellent candidate, their peers then vote for who they would like to represent their class.
Twelve children are 'voted in' from Year 1 - Year 6 and they then support and assist Mrs Breslin and Mrs Potter in leading the Catholic Life, Collective Worship and RE of our school. It is expected that these pupils will provide a great example for the rest of the school, actively living out their faith by demonstrating the Gospel Virtues and British Values.
Some of the tasks that the children undertake are:
- Working collaboratively with others, such as teachers, other CTK pupils and pupils from other schools to prepare creative and well-constructed experiences of prayer and liturgy.
- Planning and leading a Pilgrimage Day for our Sursum Corda cluster of schools
- Monitoring classroom prayer areas
- Awarding Gospel Virtues leaves within their classes
- Monitoring, evaluating and updating resources
- Assisting staff within assemblies
- Creating resources to be used in prayer
- Compiling a record of important events in the Catholic Life of the school
- Contributing to our school’s evaluation of out Catholic life and mission, taking a lead in planning improvements to it.
- Visiting other schools to conduct research and share good practice
- Leading assemblies at other schools to explain the role of a CTK Steward
- Meeting regularly to discuss Charitable Outreach, planning for opportunities to help others
- Distributing donations to charity
Many of these tasks are completed by children in their own time and they have also come to school early to lead staff in prayer in a service of thanksgiving.
