  • Coronavirus Key Worker Information Required Urgently

    Thu 19 Mar 2020

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Following our earlier text, we are waiting for the Government to publish more information of what will be considered as a child of a “key worker” but it would help us in the meantime if you could let us know if you think you may fall into one of the categories listed below and you are unable to source alternative childcare.  Please provide your child’s name, year group, parent details, contact telephone number, occupation, number of days required in school.  This can be e mailed to s.pannell@christkng.bham.sch.uk or phoned through to the school office on 0121 464 9800.

Those defined as keyworkers generally include:

    NHS staff

    Police Officers

    Prison Officers

    Social Workers

    Firefighters

    Delivery Drivers

    Teachers

Once the list is confirmed by the Department for Education, we will then contact you to confirm if a space will be available for your child.

Please note: we are presently in negotiation with our neighbouring schools and it is likely that we will be using Christ the King, St Margaret Mary, Maryvale and Cardinal Wiseman on a rotational basis. (This will be confirmed in due course). Times will be 9am-3pm. Please note we cannot facilitate a before/afterschool club.

    Kind regards

    Mrs M Breslin

  • Coronavirus Update

    Mon 16 Mar 2020

    156h March 2020

    Dear Parents/Guardians

Given the serious health concerns relating to the current Coronavirus outbreak, we have been closely monitoring government updates and the rapidly changing official advice.

The safety and well-being of our children and families is our primary concern. Any actions or decisions taken will always be with this in mind.

We are continuing to emphasise hand washing and the use of hand gel in school and appreciate the support from parents on this matter.

It has been decided that, as of Monday 16th March 2020, all school visits and activities which result in contact with groups of people outside the immediate school population, will be cancelled.

Unfortunately, this means that the following calendared events here at Christ the King will not now take place:

    • All parent meetings including all assemblies/workshops
    • Easter production
    • Swimming
    • Library visits
    • Storywood Visits
    • Easter Bonnet Parade
    • Visits to and from Cardinal Wiseman
    • Parent Ambassador workshops

We receive regular updates from the Department for Education and Public Health England.  We will continue to work to ensure that, where possible, events can be rescheduled at a later date.

Please note clubs at the moment will go ahead as normal, however, some may have to be cancelled at short notice due to unforeseen circumstances, this will be a last resort and we will communicate with relevant parents as necessary.

    We will respond quickly to any national blanket closures and we are currently preparing for such an eventuality. These preparations include;

    • setting online activities through different learning platforms including our school website, Bug Club, My Maths, Oxford Owl and TT Rockstars
    • work/books for children to go home with, as appropriate

Primary school pupils are expected to work on these age appropriate resources for 3 hours a day (1 hour for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage).

Please continue to look at Class Pages and website on a daily basis, for any updates.

We all know that people in our community, who are vulnerable, will be feeling anxious at the moment. Please continue to look out for them and pray for them in the coming weeks.

I thank you for your understanding, support and cooperation at this very difficult time.

    Yours sincerely

    Mrs Breslin
