How to bring numeracy home: 

  1. weigh or measure ingredients
  2. start introducing time language into your day e.g. it’s 12 o’clock (show on clock) that means it’s lunch time
  3. ask child who has more or less on their dinner plate
  4. ordering toys smallest to biggest and tallest to shortest
  5. go on a shape hunt.
  6. Pairing socks  
  7. Playing snakes and ladders
  8. Add numbers to pegs and help your child to order them
  9. Measuring ingredients to cook/ help make dinner
  10. Sing number songs, such as 5 current buns
  11. Sorting toys by colour/shape
  12. Sorting coins

This week we would have been learning about the number 14. Watch this video with your child and ask your child: Can you draw 14 objects? Can you count to 14? Do you know any number facts to 14 e.g. 10 = 4 = 14? If so can you write it down? What is one more/less than 14?

This week we would have been learning about the number 13 in school. Ask you child: Can you draw 13 circles/smiley faces etc, Can you count the number 13, do you know any number facts to 13 e.g. 10 + 3 = 13 (if so can they write this down) and what one more/less than 13.
