We listened to the story of Handa’s Surprise and later had a wonderful time re-enacting it in our outdoor classroom. We learnt all about a girl who lives in Africa and compared our lives; we had many insightful observations about her school life, the animals that she encounters on her walk to school and her home! We then wrote a shopping list for our fruit tasting exercise and were able to describe the taste and texture of the fruit to our friends! Finally, we created Handa’s Surprise baskets by using fruit pieces to print.
