Our Learning - Spring 2

This term we continue our learning theme of The Animal Kingdom. We will focus on dinosaurs, learning about when they lived, what they ate, how they moved and other fascinating facts about their characteristics. We will use our imagination to further our learning on dinosaurs as we read fiction books and some enjoyable dinosaur stories. We will take part in celebrating Lent, Mother's Day, Easter and learning about how we are all part of God's family within the church.

Here are the books we will share together this term:

Look at all the fabulous learning we have been doing! This week we challenged ourselves to think about different forces. What objects can we push or pull? How fast do they move? Una and Fabian had fun pulling the rope. Una said "I am strong! I can pull it fast!" We have also been creating repeating patterns using different colours and objects. Can you spot any patterns in the pictures? We performed our Poetry Basket poem called Popcorn and even cooked tasty popcorn in the microwave. We explored the changes using all our senses. Yostina said "its crunchy" and Tyler said "pop pop!" Can you perform the poem Popcorn at home for your grown ups?

Thank you to all the Nursery parents that came to read stories to us. The children loved listening and sharing their favourite books with you too. Our World Book Day celebrations were a success! Look at all our beautiful character costumes as well as our comfy reading outfits. Harry was proud to introduce himself as "superhero!" and Zoja said she was "a unicorn princess." We even had a visit from the Gingerbread Man. We decorated him independently. It was great fun!

In our story Rumble Rumble Dinosaur the children noticed a volcano. We explored our knowledge of volcanoes using google and Google Earth. We then made our very own volcano experimenting with different ingredients such as washing up liquid, vinegar and bicarbonate of soda. We noticed the exciting changes that happened. Kennedy-Beau said "bubbles" and Adrian said "erupt!" We explored different rocks to create fossils using playdough. We developed our counting and number knowledge by sticking spikes onto Stegosaurus.

Our first week back at nursery has been very exciting as we had some prehistoric visitors! The dinosaurs came to Nursery. After reading the story The Dirty Great Dinosaur, we explored dinosaurs frozen in ice eggs. Zoja said "It has cracked! Baby dinosaur is inside." We learnt the importance of oral hygiene by cleaning the dinosaurs teeth. We showed great interest in creating traps for the dinosaurs with Lucas saying "the bumpy dinosaur is stuck. I need to cut him out!" On Wednesday we were surprised by a T-rex visiting the Nursery garden and leaving lots of eggs. The children thought "he jumped over the fence!" and "he is going to roar!" We created our own large dinosaur eggs by sticking papier mache on balloons. We loved getting all sticky! Later in the week the children loved being archaeoligists as we hunted for dinosaur bones in the sandpit. Super exploring everyone.
